My Peace Corps Timeline

This is a timeline of events in my application and placement process.

April 12, 2012 – I began the process by creating an online account and filled out the first few steps of the online application.

May 5, 2012
– I attended a Peace Corps Event called 90 Minutes Around the World. Here I met returning Peace Corps Volunteers, and was able to talk to some of the Bay Area staff.

May 6, 2012
– I quickly finished my last essay questions and submitted my online application! The waiting begins.

May 9, 2012
– I received an email from the East coast recruiters inquiring about setting up an interview. Problem being I was on the West Coast! I had my file transferred to the Northern California/Bay Area Offices.

June 1, 2012
– I received an email from a recruiter wanting to set up an interview!

June 4, 2012
– 10:30am Peace Corps interview. I have never been so nervous! I took bart over to Oakland from San Francisco. When I arrived to the building, I composed myself, walked in and greeted my recruiter- Jazmian Allen. Jazmian is a returning Peace Corps Volunteer who served in Malawi! The interview consisted of numerous situational questions, mostly focused on getting to know me and whether I was ready to spend 2+ years living in another country. After spending over 2 1/2 hours chit chatting with my recruiter I got fingerprinted. Step #1 complete!


June 12, 2012
– Officially nominated to serve in the Peace Corps! Received a letter and email stating that I am nominated to be a Health volunteer in Africa leaving in June. ALL SMILES!

July/August
– Received an extensive medical review packet to be completed and submitted online.

August-November– Waiting.. waiting.. waiting..

December-January
– patience is dwindling… :/

February 6, 2011
– Received an email from a placement officer requesting: an updated resume, descriptions of any new experiences since my last resume was sent, and my final transcript with graduation date.

February 26, 2013– I have received my INVITATION to serve in Madagascar! Education volunteer leaving in July! I am over the moon!!!! Dream placement.

March, 2013 – Medical clearances and extensive medical checks: dentist, physical, optometrist, blood test, immunizations, boosters!!! The worst was Yellow Fever! :/

Currently– Finishing up the last of my medical clearances and finishing graduate school!
